In the landscape of the U.S. Department of Defense, there are individuals who truly stand out, not just for their expertise, but for their unwavering commitment. That is certainly true for Jonathan Kosarin, but you’re not going to hear it from him- he’s not that kind of guy.

From his early days as an Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) to his current role in the DoD special projects division, Jonathan Kosarin has made a lasting impact on the defense community. His 42-year career highlights include roles such as Assistant General Counsel at the National Reconnaissance Office, Associate Counsel at the Naval Supply Systems Command—and European Trial Attorney and Attorney Advisor at the U.S. Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany.

It’s important to note, however, that Jonathan’s success story goes beyond his career within the DoD. He’s also a beloved educator. Mr. Kosarin is an Adjunct Instructor of Procurement and Contracting at the University of Virginia and also teaches at the joint UVA/Virginia State Police’s National Criminal Justice Command College. Furthermore, he is an instructor with us, Federal Publication Seminars, teaching courses in contracting, procurement, and negotiations for over 20 years.

Where does he find the time:

In addition to his work at the DoD and his role as an educator – you can also find him volunteering his time at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History and at the National Museum of the United States Army at Ft. Belvoir Virginia- and this time of the year, he’s also refereeing high school football games (he’s the “white hat” referee of course) and on top of everything else---Jonathan somehow finds time to volunteer at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. Thank you, Jonathan.

Now that you know more about Jonathan, let’s get to the interview!
