This is session 2 of 2 in the Breach: Before, During and After- Best Practices & Prevention Strategies virtual course.

Data breaches are costly and create chaos for organizations and their customers. So how do you protect your organization from a data breach? How do recognize a breach? How do you respond to a breach?

This virtual program will focus on intrusions, vulnerabilities and protection for contractors, small businesses, government and non-profit entities. We will discuss insider threats, email challenges, social networking and virus/malware as well as ransomware challenges to organizations.

During the second half of the day, we will do some simulation/role playing so you have a better understanding of the components of a breach and the impact a breach has on your organization, customers, vendors and suppliers.

Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, you will:
  • Develop a best practice strategy for breach prevention and reaction
  • Create an action plan before a breach happens
  • Determine guidelines and communication channels should a breach occur
  • Identify stakeholders, customers, suppliers and all others who may have been impacted by a breach
  • Develop an action and communications plan

This live virtual course is eligible for both CLE and CPE credit.
NOTE: CPE/CLE credit for attendees are subject to participation and approval by the governing boards.

  • Alexander Major
    Partner, McCarter & English, LLP
    Mr. Major is a partner and co-leader of the firm’s Government Contracts & Export Controls Practice Group. Mr. Major focuses his practice on federal procurement, cybersecurity liability and risk management, and litigation. A prolific author and thought leader in the area of cybersecurity, his professional experience involves a wide variety of litigation and counseling matters dealing with procurement laws and federal regulations and standards . His diverse experience includes complex litigation in federal court under the qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act and bid protest actions. He counsels all sizes of companies on issues relating to compliance with government regulations including, among other things, cybersecurity (NIST, FIPS, FedRAMP, and DFARS) requirements, multiple award schedule compliance, Section 508 issues, country of origin requirements under the Buy American and Trade Agreements Acts, cost accounting, and small business requirements. He also regularly conducts internal investigations to assist companies ensure that they are in full compliance with the law.

    Mr. Major is a retired U.S. Air Force intelligence officer and remains a U.S. Air Force Academy Admissions Liaison Officer for the state of Maryland.

  • Christopher Pogue
    Director, Digital Forensics and Incident Response, CyberCX
    Chris Pogue is the Director of Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) for CyberCX in the Americas and is a member of the global DFIR leadership team.

    Over his 25-year career, Chris has led multiple professional security and services organizations to investigate data breaches, secure corporate computing assets and critical value data, implement wide-scale compliance regimes, and help executives and boards of directors both qualify and quantify security risks.

    His extensive experience is drawn from careers as a cybercrimes investigator, ethical hacker, military officer, law enforcement and military instructor, university professor, business executive, and board advisor.

    Chris served in the United States Army as a Signal Corps Warrant Officer, participating in multiple joint task force missions is support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and the Global War on Terror. He distinguished himself as an Honor Graduate from a variety of Army Academies and Schools and received multiple awards and commendations for excellence.

    Chris was also an active member of the United States Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force in multiple field offices as well as the Headquarters Division. He has also been the recipient of multiple Secret Service Certificates of Appreciation.
