CPE, CLE Accredited
This is session 1 of 2 in the Contract Closeout virtual course.

This virtual course will teach participants the important procedures you should know to follow through with the post-completion phase of a government contract. Students will learn how the contract closeout process does not start at the end of the contract, but actually starts in the acquisition phase and continues throughout the life of the contract. Participants will learn how to develop and follow a process that makes the final closeout more efficient and effective.

The virtual course will also include pointers for navigating a successful closeout audit, discussion of alternative contract termination scenarios, and the impact of the new FAR Compliance requirements on closeout. Finally, our instructors will cover techniques for simplifying closeout, using Early and Quick Closeout as well as Final Closure.

We'll cover subjects from FAR & DFAR guidance for closing contracts by type of contract. One contract closeout process does not fit all. This course will cover a range of subjects that will arm you with the knowledge necessary to craft the right process for your particular contract.

Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the course you will:
  • Recognize and refer to the regulations governing closeouts
  • Develop procedures on closeouts
  • Understand differences in contract types and closeout options
  • Learn best practices in communications with all parties involved in the closeout process
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities during the closeout process

This live virtual course is eligible for both CLE and CPE credit.
NOTE: CPE/CLE credit for attendees are subject to participation and approval by the governing boards.

About Our Experts
  • Judy (Jake) Leishman
    Attorney
Jake Leishman is an experienced government contracts attorney who develops and delivers instruction, legal consultation on legal, contract administration, acquisitions, policy implementation, and compliance issues.

Jake began as a social worker then moved to education, serving as the Director of Continuing Education at the University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning. In addition to continuing education, Jake taught graduate and undergraduate courses in social policy and social administration.

After receiving her Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland, Jake spent a few years in private practice but made the decision that corporate law, focusing on government contracts was her preferred arena. She worked at Federal Data Corporation as Corporate Counsel and at Electronic Data Systems (now HP Enterprise Services) as Senior Counsel for EDS’ Contracts with the United States Government. In addition Jake developed and delivered training to all EDS contract professionals who handled federal procurement, subcontracts under the FAR, and state and local contracts.

Jake's instructional approach focuses on two elements; the need for common sense and a good sense of humor when addressing problem solving, policy analysis and implementation, all aspects of contracting, and working in the Federal arena.
