Cybersecurity Compliance for Government Contractors is a new course of Federal Publications Seminars, driven by the demand of our customers to keep up with the ever-changing landscape of newly-published rules and regulations and increased enforcement facing those who do business with the government. It is a high-level review of the cybersecurity rules and regulations, emphasizing practical keys to success in today's cybersecurity compliance world.

This fundamental course covers the basic cybersecurity rules and regulations (FAR, FISMA, FedRAMP, DFARS, CISA, CMMC), the newly published regulations (DHARS, VA, NIST), how cybersecurity has changed the SPRS Score, and the new “TikTok” ban - in clear, concise terms you can apply to your individual work and cybersecurity operations.

About Our Experts
  • Jonathan Kosarin
    DoD, IWTSD
    Jonathan H. Kosarin, Associate Counsel, Special Projects Division, is assigned to the Department of Defense Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate. He has over 42 years’ experience in acquisition, government contracting, and fiscal law. Mr. Kosarin previously served as Assistant General Counsel at the National Reconnaissance Office; Deputy Counsel, Special Projects Division; and, Associate Counsel, Naval Supply Systems Command. While on active duty as a JAG with the Army, he served as European Trial Attorney and Attorney Advisor at the U.S. Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany, and as Trial Attorney, U.S. Army Contract Appeals Division.

    As an Army Reserve JAG, Mr. Kosarin served as Adjunct Professor of Contract Law/Chairman Contract and Fiscal Law Department at the Army Judge Advocate General's School in Charlottesville, VA; Acting Chief, Contract Law Division, U.S. Army Headquarters in Heidelberg Germany, and as Deputy General Counsel, Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office. He retired from the Army Reserve as a Colonel.

    Mr. Kosarin is an Adjunct Instructor of Procurement and Contracting at the University of Virginia and also teaches at the joint UVA/Virginia State Police’s National Criminal Justice Command College. He is an instructor with Federal Publication Seminars teaching courses in contracting, procurement and negotiations.
    Mr. Kosarin received his Bachelor of Arts degree (History), magna cum laude, from Syracuse University; his Juris Doctor degree, from Brooklyn Law School; and his Master of Laws degree in Government Procurement Law, from the George Washington National Law Center. Mr. Kosarin is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College. He is licensed to practice in New York and the District of Columbia.

    Mr. Kosarin serves as a Volunteer Information Specialist at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. He is a certified football referee and has officiated high school football games for 48 years, including 3 Virginia High School League State Finals. Mr. Kosarin volunteers at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington. He is a volunteer at the National Museum of the United States Army at Ft. Belvoir Virginia. Mr. Kosarin is married to Gayle Kosarin, a retired special education teacher and resides in Reston, VA.
  • Alexander Major
    Partner, McCarter & English, LLP
    Mr. Major is a partner and co-leader of the firm’s Government Contracts & Export Controls Practice Group. Mr. Major focuses his practice on federal procurement, cybersecurity liability and risk management, and litigation. A prolific author and thought leader in the area of cybersecurity, his professional experience involves a wide variety of litigation and counseling matters dealing with procurement laws and federal regulations and standards . His diverse experience includes complex litigation in federal court under the qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act and bid protest actions. He counsels all sizes of companies on issues relating to compliance with government regulations including, among other things, cybersecurity (NIST, FIPS, FedRAMP, and DFARS) requirements, multiple award schedule compliance, Section 508 issues, country of origin requirements under the Buy American and Trade Agreements Acts, cost accounting, and small business requirements. He also regularly conducts internal investigations to assist companies ensure that they are in full compliance with the law.

    Mr. Major is a retired U.S. Air Force intelligence officer and remains a U.S. Air Force Academy Admissions Liaison Officer for the state of Maryland.
