AI for Government Contract Professionals

“Question Everything.”

This quote, attributed to Socrates, encourages us to ask questions in this course. Asking questions will sharpen our awareness of AI's potential benefits to us and to our organizations. Questions can lead us to better answers to the local and global issues that we face as world citizens. Questions and answers will also help us focus on the vulnerabilities that we may face in working with AI.

The course starts with guidance from the federal government for us. The President’s Executive Order is both comprehensive and prescriptive.
This is followed by the progress made by the administration since the order's signing.

The course continues on the first day, covering the EU’s (European Union’s) new legislation on AI. The legislation describes a risk management approach to AI that is a clear pathway to follow toward successfully implementing AI in an ethical AI environment.

Agenda:

Guidance from the U.S. Government
  • The President’s Executive Order on AI, Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and use of Artificial Intelligence
  • The Administration Announces Key AI Actions 180 Days Following the President’s Executive Order
  • The Administration’s OMB Policy to Advance Governance, Innovation, and Risk Management in Federal Agencies’ Use of Artificial Intelligence
  • On March 28, 2024, OMB (The Office of Management & Budget) issued an RFI (Request for Information) on Responsible Procurement of AI in Government.  The RFI “will collect input from the public on ways to ensure that private sector companies supporting the Federal Government follow the best available practices and requirements”
In a recent report concerning Guidance from the Government, a new Panel will advise the Department of Homeland Security on the uses of AI within America’s critical infrastructure. The AI Safety and Security Board is a Government effort to protect the economy, public health, and vital industries from potential AI-driven threats.  Panel Members include Sam Altman of Open AI, the Chief Executives of NVidia, Microsoft, and Alphabet and almost twenty other leaders from within the Government’s critical infrastructure sector.

Guidance from the EU’s (European Union’s) AI (Artificial Intelligence) Act
  • The EU AI Act takes a Risk Management approach to AIl
  • It is a logical, purposeful, and efficient approach that is presented here for education purposes.
