Learning Objectives: 
After completing this course, you will be able to understand basic and important U.S. export control concepts under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR), including:
  • Export jurisdiction and classification analysis of defense and “dual use” hardware, software, and technical data/technology, as well as defense services
  • Export controls concerns related to consumer off-the-shelf (COTS) items 
  • Export license requirements and license exemptions or exceptions 
  • “Deemed” exports and hiring practices
  • Maintaining an ITAR registration 
  • Implementing export compliance programs and technology transfer plans
  • Screening transactions and red flags
  • Clearing export shipments
  • Violations, voluntary disclosures and enforcement
In addition to U.S. export control topics, this course will help you understand certain U.S. sanctions (e.g., against Russia, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Syria and others) administered by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Attendees will gain an understanding of how these regulations impact your ability to do business in the international marketplace.
